Dr. Robert P. Melco, DVM
Dr. Robert Melco has been practicing veterinary medicine in the north metro for over 20 years. He purchased Maple Grove Pet Hospital in 2013 and renamed the hospital Paws and Claws Pet Hospital of Maple Grove. He has been updating the practice to provide the best care possible ever since. Dr. Melco grew up in West St. Paul, MN and graduated from the University of Minnesota's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. His professional interests are small animal medicine, pocket pets, exotics as well as Laser Surgery. Dr. Melco married his wife, Lynn, in 1992 and they have 3 kids. They currently live in Elk River, MN and have 4 dogs, 3 cats, and several chickens. In his free time Dr. Melco enjoys cooking, gardening, canning, fishing and spending time with his wife and kids.
Dr. Christy Hutchins, DVM
Dr. Hutchins started at Paws and Claws Pet Hospital in September 2016 and has been working in the veterinary industry since 2004. She has worked with all types of animals from hamsters to horses with a focus on small animal medicine. Dr. Hutchins is originally from Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical College in 2010 and started working at a small animal clinic in St Paul. She took a break from clinical practice for a few years to teach veterinary technology students until 2016. She currently lives in Roseville, MN with her cat Evie and a tank full of “fancy” guppies. Dr. Hutchins enjoys kayaking, rock climbing, swimming, and has just started doing obstacle training at a local gym inspired by the show “American Ninja Warrior”.
Samantha Kaufman, CVT
Certified Veterinary Technician/Office Manager
Samantha joined the staff of Paws and Claws Pet Hospital in December 2016. She worked at East Lake Animal Clinic and Heartland Animal Hospital before joining our team. She graduated with honors from Minnesota School of Business in Lakeville in 2012 and passed her certification exam in December 2012. She has re-certified twice since then and has brought a wealth of knowledge to the clinic to help train other technicians. Samantha grew up in Medford, MN and has lived in several places throughout the state. She currently lives in Zimmerman, MN with her boyfriend Dustin, their daughters Lilly, and Charli. She enjoys spending time with her family (especially outside), singing/music, going to the gym, and trying new food/recipes.
Katelyn Buterbaugh, CVT
Certified Veterinary Technician
Katelyn joined the staff of Paws and Claws in September of 2015. She graduated with honors from Minnesota School of Business in Lakeville in September of 2016. She passed her Veterinary Technician National Exam in December of 2016. Katelyn grew up in North Central Pennsylvania. She relocated to Minnesota in 2013. She currently lives in Shakopee with her boyfriend Brett. They have two dogs, Alastair and Maze, and two cats, Quigley and Sherlock. In her free time she likes spending time with her pets, going to Target Field for baseball games, hiking, cooking, reading and painting.
Kimberly Divan, CVT
Certified Veterinary Technician
Kimberly joined the staff of Paws and Claws Pet Hospital in July 2017. She came to us from Savage Tower Animal Hospital in Savage, MN. Kimberly graduated from Minnesota School of Business in June 2015 and passed her certification exam that July. She has re-certified once since then. Kimberly grew up in New Market, MN on a hobby farm with many types of animals including horses, cow, chickens, and many cats and dogs. She now lives in Maple Grove with her boyfriend Geoff and his daughter Harper. They have 2 cats named Furball and Casey. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, drawing/painting, singing, spending time outside, and baking.
Veterinary Technician Assistant
Talitha joined the staff of Paws and Claws Pet Hospital in August 2016. She discovered her love of animals at an early age and has always wanted to work with them. She earned her Associates of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology from MN School of Business in 2010. Talitha grew up in Fridley MN and currently lives in Blaine MN. Talitha has a special interest in preventative care and client education. In her free time, Talitha enjoys shopping, reading, taking road trips, Netflix and spending time with her family and friends. In the future she hopes to become a foster mom for a local animal rescue.
